2022 has been a difficult year for most.
It has been a year that has challenged our identity as a nation, our resilience as individuals and our resolve as families.
We may have lost a few battles along the way, but we have definitely won the war!
If you have remained a critical thinker, if you have remained true to your values and convictions, and if you have been able to help others along the way - you have won!
Anything else is is secondary.
As we look ahead, we pause for a moment and we take stock.
We look back.
We are grateful for what we have, and we are more grateful for the opportunities to come in 2023.
We look back, review, consider what we did right, what we could have done better, but it is more important to look forward.
As we plan, build and store for the future, it is important to gain an eternal perspective.
Everything in this life will pass away, so it is important to build that which will last eternally.
In the spirit of noting the true reason for the season, I'd like to share one of my favourite modern Carols with you sung acapela style by one of my favourite groups - Pentatonix.
The lyrics bring me to tears.
Every time.
As we continually search for a leader who will solve all of our problems, and put everything right in this world, it is important to recognise and acknowledge that there is ONLY ONE SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD!
Let's be honest - there will never be a perfect leader in this imperfect world.
There will never be a perfect institution or process which can facilitate true and full justice.
And, we are fooling ourselves by thinking so, and placing unnecessary pressure on any one person - expecting the impossible!
Humans fail us - that's just the way it is.
Institutions fail us, because it is run by broken humans.
Jesus Christ transcends all that is human, because He is Fully Divine and Fully Human at the same time.
He is not only the Reason for the Season, but He is the REASON.
FULL STOP.
Nothing else matters.
We place our trust, faith and hope in Him alone.
We will continue to fight for justice.
We will continue to educate, empower and elevate others.
We will continue to determine to make a difference in this world - and try to make it a better place.
As we do so, we ensure that the main thing remains the main thing.
Keeping that perspective keeps us grounded, it balances our expectations and helps us to overcome any mental health challenges we may be faced with.
